What does a Postpartum Doula do? (and what they don't do)

A Postpartum Doula is a trained professional that offers non-medical physical and emotional support to a new mother and the rest of the family. Postpartum Doulas can offer breastfeeding support, newborn care, assistance for birth parents recovery, family nurturing, instruction to mum and/or other family members in the care of a newborn and even some light household maintenance, including laundry, cooking and shopping. The Postpartum Doula’s job is to make the transition to parenthood easier for new parents, to help mum during her recovery period and to ascertain what the family needs help with and provide the instruction.

It's important to note that a Doula is a non-medical professional that forms part of your pre and post natal team. We cannot advocate for the birthing parent or family, but we empower them with evidence based resources to ensure they make informed and empowered decisions.

Do you do Home Visits?

Yes! I do only on location appointments. But that location can be of your choosing. Most frequently I come to clients homes to assist and empower them in their own living space. This is especially important in the early days and weeks when mastering breastfeeding. But I also arrange consultations and meet ups in public locations if that suits the needs of the client.

Can I book Postnatal or Breastfeeding Support, in advance, whilst I'm still pregnant?

Yes! It’s simple. Let me know your Expected Due Date (EDD) and I will pencil you in starting from two (2) weeks prior to your EDD, until you’re actual delivery. You then just have to let me know when you bundle of joy has arrived and your booking is then confirmed.

For example. Your EDD is Monday 19th October. You plan for a ‘Postpartum Consultation’ the day after you get home from hospital. You actually deliver on Friday 9th October. After you let me know the amazing news, your first consultation will be confirmed as Monday 12th October (or 13th if CSection).

*Appointments are scheduled Monday-Friday between 9am and 4pm only
